AIM OF THIS BLOG:

I am very much fascinated by the habit of collecting coins - the art and science of NUMISMATICS. Having no systematic approach - I faced so many hardships in the process and decided to help the others particularly the beginners.

SELECTING THE CATEGORY:
Nobody can collect all the coins of the world. Especially, the beginner - before starting collecting - has to decide first what category to collect. It largely depends on the capacity i.e. how much one can spare the amount. On other words the financial strength of the collector. E.g. collecting Gold Coins or Rare Coins requires lot of funds to spare rather than collecting Coppers or particular Dynasty.
Now consider the categories and sub categories.
  • Metal - Copper, Silver, Gold etc.
  • County-wise - India, U.S.A. etc.
  • Dynasty / Period - Victoria Queen, East India Company, Early Independent India etc.
The above is only an elaborate one and not an exhaustive.

Having decided the category, it in necessary to consider sub category depending on the permitted time and resources. When the decision of collecting coins of "East India Company" becomes burden then it is better to limit the collection only to coppers/Silver Coins of East India Company rather than quitting the habit.

COLLECTION:
Now it is the real task of collection of the coins. WHERE? and HOW?
